Mazda MX-5 Cup Race #3 - LAGUNA SECA

This weekend was one of highs, lows, and lots of lessons learned. I’d say this weekend was the most textbook definition of a rollercoaster of emotions.

In practice, I felt confident in my car and my driving. With two practice sessions, we were able to tune the setup and fine tune my driving to the best of my abilities.

In qualifying, I got good positioning and felt like we nailed the setup. Even though my car got hit coming out of the corkscrew due to an incident involving the two cars in front of me, I was able to pull off P15!

With nowhere to go in the middle of two cars making contact, my driver side door was gashed open and my rear alignment knocked out by 5mm. Despite that, we were able to get my best qualifying result yet!

In Race 1, on the start, I was involved in an incident going into turn 5. The other driver and I were spun around and sent to the back. The incident could’ve been prevented with better judgement, but we live and learn. With a devastating start to Race 1, we ended up P20.

In Race 2, the same exact incident happened. The only difference was that I was on the other side of the incident. With an assisted spin, I was sent dead last, once again, as the other driver didn’t lose position.

With another unfortunate start to Race 2 and a damaged car, I put my head down and drove my heart out. Making my way from dead last to P11, I’m proud to say that we were able to get my best results yet! Almost cracking the Top 10 in my 3rd race weekend of the season, I’m happy to say that my hard work is starting to pay off!

Ending the race weekend on a good note, showing great pace, ability to adapt, and being able to be coachable, I’m very happy with how the weekend played out. Although, I made a misjudgment in Race 1 and got taken out on the start of Race 2, I feel that there’s lots to learn and many positives to take from the weekend.

I can’t thank my dad, mom, everyone at Spark Performance, and family support team enough for all of the help and encouragement this weekend. Thank you for helping me grow and become not just a better racer, but a better human as well.

With high emotions this weekend, I especially want to thank my dad, mom, team owners, Sparky and Courtney, crew chief, Brad, and driver coach, Bryce, for having my back when things didn’t go as planned.

With Ohio in only 3 weeks, I still have a lot of work to do, but I’ll be coming back ready and better than ever! See y’all then!
