Speedsportz - TSRS Race 5

This weekend was Sally’s best race in the regional Texas Sprint Racing Series.

Thursday

All day during practice, Sally drove with 3 of the fastest local drivers at Speedsportz. The group of 4 practiced drafting for each of the 5 sessions in order to imitate a fast qualifying session.

Friday

On Friday, Sally qualified P1 for the first time at a regional race with 20 of the best Lo206 drivers from Texas.

I got behind that group of 3 and did the exact same thing we practiced all day on Thursday. I happened to get the fastest lap, but we were only thousandths of a second apart.

Starting on pole for Heat 1, Sally got a great start and led the pack for the first few laps. Then, in the midst of the battle for first and second, she fell back to 3rd.

Playing it smart and deciding not to risk losing anymore positions, Sally pushed Braxden Tregre and Tyler Stephens to the finish line in 3rd.

I knew that if I finished in the top 3 for each of the heat races, then I would for sure have a front row starting spot for the main event. I wanted to play it smart, so I pushed the two karts in front of me in order to get a gap from the rest of the pack.

Saturday

Starting on pole again for Heat 2, Sally got another great start and came out of the first few corners in P1. Then, Mikey Bowlin passed for the lead and Sally decided to stay behind and push him until the last few laps.

The two drivers broke away and created a huge gap from the rest of the pack, running lap times 2-3 tenths of a second faster then the group behind.

Then, on the second to last lap, Sally made a pass for the lead. On the last lap, she blocked and ended up in 2nd after crossing the finish line backwards.

On the last lap, I do admit that I blocked too much. However, it was kind of cool crossing the finish line in 2nd backwards. It was definitely done in style!

Starting the main event on the front row in 2nd, Sally came out of the first few corners in 3rd. With Braxden Tregre and Mikey Bowlin in front of her, she stayed behind the pair and pushed.

For 16 minutes, the 3 drivers checked out from the rest of the pack. Sally pushed the entire race except for the last lap on the last corner, when she made a pass for 2nd.

Just like in the previous races, I decided to play it smart and push. It worked out beautifully because the leaders fought in front of me and basically gave me a free position.

It was an awesome end to the weekend. I’m so stoked to be able to have gotten my first regional podium! I couldn’t have done it without my dad and all of my sponsors.
