First Miata Race - Harris Hill Raceway

This weekend, Sally raced in her first miata race. As Harris Hill runs two 45-minute races, one clockwise and one counter clockwise, it was a very fast paced day.

Although new racers automatically start in the back of the field, Sally was nervous as she had never raced a car. On the start of the first race, she was timid due to her lack of experience in the 2,000lb vehicle. Fortunately, though, she made some legitimate passes and was 2nd fastest on the track.

In karting, your front bumper is literally at the tip of your toes. A car, however, is a completely different story. It made me nervous driving super close to other cars, but I eventually gathered enough confidence to make some memorable passes.

In the second race, Sally was more aggressive on the start, passing 3 cars in one corner. However, during the 45-minute race in the 100 degree heat, her car struggled to make power causing her to be 2 seconds off the leaders. With her newly built confidence, but lack of pace, Sally finished near the back.

However, that didn’t stop her from having fun because she had the biggest fan club in the whole paddock. With all the love and support from her family and friends, Sally considered her first car race a major success!

I’m super grateful for everyone who showed up to support me. It made me feel like a celebrity! And for my first car race, it was a total success! Although I still have so much to learn, I look forward to all of the new memories I’ll make at Harris Hills!
