Harris Hill Miata Race #4

This weekend was my first race with the new wrap on my race car!

For the first race, we expected sunny, clear skies. However, when we got to the track it was sprinkling and didn’t look like it was going to stop in time for the 10am race. I was really nervous because I had only raced karts in the rain, never cars.

Starting mid pack in P15, I got a decent start amongst the chaos of everyone cautiously searching for grip. It was actually more fun than I thought once I got the hang of it. I was able to take the rain line and find grip faster than some people and pass them on the outside.

Robby Mott disconnecting the rear sway bar to add grip to the car for the rainy conditions.

After I made it to 7th place, I searched a little too hard in the wet conditions and caused my car to spin. However, I kept it on track and continued the race, making up positions I lost, ultimately ending up in P6. I came in the highest I’ve ever placed and had a ton of fun learning the car in wet conditions. Considering my circumstances, I feel like I did alright, but there’s definitely a lot of improvement that needs to be made.

In the second race, the clouds had cleared up and the sun was coming out, so the track was pretty much back to normal. Starting in P15 again, I got a not so good start.

However, I kept my head high and started making as many passes as I could. I got up to 7th place until an incident with another car caused me to spin. However, I got back on track, made some more passes, and finished the race.

It was a great weekend with so much learned and still so much to learn. This race has motivated me to work harder and come back even stronger for the upcoming season in February. I can’t thank my dad, sponsors, and everyone who came to support enough for everything they do!
